Up-Coming Events

September 18th- Cooking Project
We will be making our aprons for the school year, and we will also be making cupcakes! After making them, your child will get to decorate his/her cupcake with their favorite color to go along with our “Color” theme.

*The aprons will stay here the entire school year, and they will take them home when the school year ends. They will wear them when we do our cooking projects, and also when we do messy art projects.

Sept.25th- Read a thon
Your child may bring his/her blanket and pillow, and their favorite “Color” book. It can be a book about colors, or it can be any book that is your child’s favorite color.

October 2nd- Taste Testing

(Not too spicy obviously) We will be sharing this with the class. Please do not bring in anything home made, only store bought.

* Please leave comments so I know you look at it! It also gives me more motivation to do it. Also, if you have a family blog, I would love to add it to our list!

Parents-

We have a lot to cover in this newsletter, so let’s get started! As some of you may know, I changed how we will be doing snack time. Each child will be assigned as our “Snack King/Queen” Your child will be in charge of bringing the snack for the entire class. (7 kids) I will send the Snack tote with you when it is your child’s turn to bring in snack. It should be a healthy and nutritious snack. Fruit Snacks are okay, but please don’t send candy or cupcakes. Also, please don’t bring in anything home made. Everything should be store bought. If you need ideas, please feel free to ask me. When your child is designated as the snack king, he/she gets to wear our class crown for the day, gets to be the line leader, and may also bring a show and tell! If your child isn’t going to be at school the day that they are supposed to bring in snack, please let me know! You will receive the snack sheet on the first day of school. It will be done monthly, and it will also be noted on our class calendar!

Another thing that has changed this year is our class parties. I will be combining both classes on days that we have parties! So for our usual Halloween, Friendship Feast, Christmas, Valentines, St. Patty’s, and Easter Parties, Class will be from 10am-12pm. ON CLASS PARTIES ONLY! This is to make it easier when we are doing all the activities, and when we have our puppet shows. I will have an assistant teacher on those days as well!

I put in a survey for parents night out, please fill it out and let me know if you are interested.

I’m so excited for this school year, and am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of your children. I can’t wait to see them grow and watch their different personalities shine!

With Love,

Mrs. Melissa

News for April

2 AND 3'S

Just a reminder to have your child scribble on paper with pencil, pens, markers etc. So they will start getting used to holding a writing utensil. It is a very important skill that will need to be picked up by next year. They are doing great; I just want them to improve their control while writing. I feel this is the best way to do that!

BOTH CLASSES

We are also going to have a read a thon at the end of the month! It will be Friday May 1st. Have your child bring a blanket, pillow, and a few of their favorite books (labeled) please.

For our Easter Party, we will be having a jelly bean toss with water balloons, decorate Easter egg cookies, and having an Easter egg hunt! It’s going to be lots of fun. Everyone always asks what they can bring to help, so if you want to bring something for your child to share with the class at the party, you are welcome to do so! I will have drinks and all the stuff for cookies already.

*DURING THE WEEK OF THE 20TH -24 PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD WEARS SHOES GOOD FOR WALKING IN. WE WILL BE GOING ON A WALK EACH DAY TO PICK UP GARBAGE. THAT PEOPLE HAVE LITTERED IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. I WILL ALSO BE CHALLENGING THE KIDS TO DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR THE EARTH THIS WEEK. IF THEY DO, THEY WILL GET A REWARD. SO, IF YOU COULD HELP THEM OUT, THAT WOULD BE GREAT. WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT ALL KINDS OF THINGS THEY CAN DO AT SCHOOL!

4 Year olds are starting their New Hooked on Phonics workbooks this month! We will be going over sight words, and improving on their reading skills. You will also be getting a sight word each week that your child will put on a ring key chain, so they can review them each week.

We are starting subtraction this month as well. The kids are doing so great at Math!

First Day of Spring

For the first day of Spring, both classes planted flowers in planters and we dug for worms and bugs. The kids had a BLAST! As you can see, the weather was really nice! I didn't get pictures of the 4's, because my camera was lost. Sorry, but they had a lot of fun as well. We went on a Spring walk and looked at all the Spring flowers, and listened to the birds chirping!

Hats for Letter H

The kids wearing their hats they made for their Letter H project.

B IS FOR BACON
The kids made Bacon for their cooking project for Letter B. The Bacon lasted about 1 minute. They chowed it down quickly!
